FRESHMAN FREELANCE PROJECT
Each year students in my Introduction to Graphic Design class are required to work with a paying client. Students are led through the entire process; however they are required to find their own client, determine their hourly rate, track their time, write a contract, and send an invoice.
This practice became the premise behind my book, A Graphic Design Student’s Guide to Freelance: Practice Makes Perfect, published by John Wiley & Sons Publishing. While I encourage my students to work with friends, family, or a church or civic organization they are already familiar with, Kyle decided to work with a local tattoo shop and received $50 for this advertisement.
